RIP Michael Turner (1971-2008)

June 28, 2008 – 7:04 am by Allen

Hanging on the wall of my office is an Identity Crisis poster my wife got me for Father’s Day a few years ago. It features the art from the cover of issue #1 — and it’s signed by artist Michael Turner. The poster also came with a photo of him signing it (or one much like it, I suppose). My children look at it all the time and like to rattle off the names of the characters on it.

Rest well, Michael Turner. From what little was made public about your health, I know it was a hard battle for the last few years. Thirty-seven is far, far, far too young.

  1. One Response to “RIP Michael Turner (1971-2008)”

  2. I’ve seen a ton of posts on a lot of different bulletin boards. Thankfully not that many, but sadly more than one post started off by saying, “I never really cared for his work, but…” (To be fair, I didn’t see a single post that managed to work in “even though he would never draw feet…”)

Turner died after a lengthy battle with cancer. He may very well have lived the last seven or eight years of his life with some tiny part of his brain concerned for your personal opinion of his work. But I haven’t.

Believe it or not, folks, it’s possible to send your sympathy to his friends, family, and fans without somehow cheapening it with One Last Critique.
